Pangandaran, Indonesia – The Jaringan Masyarakat Tani Indonesia (Jamtani) is one of the organizations that helps encourage the development of agribusiness of entrepreneurs in remote villages in an interesting way such as the utilization of the Azolla plant. This project is supported by the Medium-Term Cooperation Program 2 (MTCP2) and the ASEAN Farmers’ Organizations Support Program (AFOSP) co-financed by the IFAD and the European Union.

Jamtani General Coordinator, Kustiwa Adinata, explained that Crispy Azolla Tenga is one of the superior products promoted by the group’s home industry, in an effort to increase the income of members in Padaherang District, Pangandaran Regency, West Java. According to him, the initiative helps with the post-harvest problems that farmers often experience including middlemen and urban industrial dealers and distributors.

“As it is known, the chain of agricultural products that have been produced is long enough to reach the consumer level,” he explained. “So, we gather and train this group and we assist them to form a farmer cooperative. So that post-harvest processing and marketing can be done collectively.”

Through this program, he explained, farmer groups are encouraged to develop contemporary processed products by cooperating with women to take part in it. “Another interesting thing that is important is that apart from rice, farmers can use the leftover yard to plant kitchen needs that can be processed and have more selling value,” he explained.

Crispy Azola, Produk Unggulan Home Industry Pangandaran

Jaringan Masyarakat Tani Indonesia (Jamtani) medjadi salah satu organisasi yang turut mendorong berkembangnya pelaku usaha agribisnis di pelosok desa dengan cara menarik, yakni memanfaatkan tanaman Azolla. Program didukung oleh Medium Term Cooperation Program 2 (MTCP2) dan ASEAN Farmers’ Organizations Support Program (AFOSP) Uni Eropah dan IFAD.

Koordinator Umum Jamtani, Kustiwa Adinata, menjelaskan Crispy Azolla tenga dijadikan sebagai salah satu produk unggulan home industry kelompok, dalam upaya peningkatan pendapatan anggota di Kecamatan Padaherang, Kabupaten Pangandaran, Jawa Barat. Menurutnya, program ini dirasa relevan dengan persoalan pasca panen yang kerap dialami petani. Dimana peran mereka selalu di ambil alih oleh tengkulak, maupun bandar industri di perkotaan dan distributor.

“Seperti diketahui bahwa mata rantai produk-produk pertanian yang selama ini dihasilkan cuckup panjang sampai di tingkat kosumen,” bebernya.

“Nah, kelompok ini kami himpun dan latih serta kami dampingi untuk membentuk koperasi petani. Sehingga pengolahan pasca panen dan pemasaran bisa dilakukan secara kolektif,” imbuhnya.

Melalui program ini, jelas dia, kelompok petani didorong untuk mengembangkan produk olahan kekinian dengan menggandeng kaum perempuan untuk turut ambil bagian di dalamnya. “Hal menarik lainnya yang penting adalah selain padi, petani bisa memanfaatkan pekarangan sisa untuk ditanami kebutuhan dapur yang bisa diolah dan punya nilai jual lebih,” jelasnya.
