Introduction

In the mid-term review (MTR) mission for the FO4A/APFP conducted in November-December 2023, the notion of attaining commercial viability of FOs being assisted by the project became the prevailing topic. Among the key MTR recommendations included the need for project actors to have a common understanding of commercialization of FO enterprises as one of the goals of the project and to undertake strategic interventions to enable the project actors to achieve this goal. In this regard, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is providing an Implementation Support Mission to pursue the recommendations of the MTR.

This workshop is an initial step in deepening the understanding of commercialization among project actors and the ways forward in pursuing this project goal.

Workshop objectives

At the end of the workshop:

  1. The participants are expected to have a deeper understanding of the commercialization of FOs and how it can be achieved.
  2. A tool has been agreed upon on how to categorize FOs that are being assisted by the project based on their level of commercial viability.
  3. An agreement has been reached among consultants, project managers, and country level implementers on the capacity building effort that needs to be implemented to raise the commercial viability of assisted FO enterprises.
