The Agricultur Farmers Federation Myanmar (AFFM), an AFA member organization, will bring the voice of small farmers, women and landless workers representatives fighting against land grabbing, land confiscation, forced displacement, lack of rights and poverty to the MILAN EXPO 2015.
AFFM representatives will speak at the CIVIL SOCIETY PAVILLION on May 29, 14:30 PM on the theme “Empowerment of small farmers, landless workers and women for an integrated, sustainable rural development, peace and democracy”.
In the following days, they will also meet with representatives of trade unions, universities, institutions, business to exchange experiences on organic farming, sustainable and responsible investments and workers’ rights.
AFFM has recently announced its official registration with Myanmar’s Ministry of Labor after a three-year process.
In addition, the Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar (CTUM), of which AFFM is a part of, is also now qualified to become a confederation.
These developments will strengthen both AFFM and CTUM as important channels of services to small-scale farmers as well as other sectors in Myanmar.
AFFM is part of the Asia Pacific Farmers’ Forum supported by the Medium Term Cooperation Program Phase Two (MTCP2), where it is the National Implementing Agency (NIA) in Myanmar.
AFA sends its best wishes to AFFM and CTUM and as it continues to work with them in solidarity towards their common aspiration of empowering farmers and other sectors towards sustainable development.
