The EU and IFAD will meet with FOs and partners including AgriCord and ASEAN Foundation for the 1st Joint Project Steering Committee Meeting to jumpstart ASEAN Farmers’ Organisations Support Programme (AFOSP) implementation. The meeting will be organized by AFA and LVC in the Philippines parallel to the ASEAN AMAF on September 10.
The ASEAN Farmers’ Organisations Support Programme (AFOSP) has been signed both by EU and IFAD. Subsidiary agreement with MTCP2 and FFP partners are now being discussed. In line with this and in the spirit of partnership, a meeting among key stakeholders is envisioned to be a key step to jump-start the program.
In the program design, a joint AFOSP Program Steering Committee (PSC) composed of representatives from the EU Delegation Indonesia, IFAD, AgriCord, the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Foundation, AFA, LVC and other possible stakeholders shall be formed to oversee and validate the overall direction of the AFOSP program. The PSC hopes to provide venue for partners to complement/synergize initiatives towards greater impact of the program. Beyond AFOSP, areas of cooperation can likewise be forged to ensure better result for small-scale farmers in the ASEAN region as well as ensure sustainable rural development.
The meeting hopes to (1) level off expectations among stakeholders particularly on the role of the Project Steering Committee, (2) identify common activities and strategies for effective complementation between MCTP2 and FFP, and (3) determine other areas for cooperation beyond AFOSP within the covered countries as well as at the regional level.
