Representatives from farmer organizations in Southeast Asian countries, including China, attended the AFOSP-MTCP2 steering committee meeting last November 28, 2016 in Quezon City, Philippines to share updates from each country as well as national and regional plans for the coming year.

The meeting was also attended by Giovanni Serritelli from EU who expressed appreciation for the achievements of the FOs and consultant Nerlie Manalili who gave an input on the value chain plans of the FOs.

In his welcome message, Zainal Fuat of LVC cites their meeting with Pope Benedict in Rome and their agreement on the need to address climate change as constraint faced by farmers.

This was affirmed by Serritelli, who emphasized the need for farmers to have one voice in facing challenges such as climate change.

Among the achievements cited by FOs were increased policy engagements with government, trainings on value chain development and marketing.

The FOs agreed to fast-track the implementation of the projects for next year for the benefit of smallholder farmers in the region.

Representatives from FOs in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and China were present at the meeting organized by AFA and LVC with PAKISAMA as local host.

The FOs also attended the 6th ACBF on Nov 29-30 and the post-ACBF CSO forum on Dec 1-2.

The two events are complementary to the FOs plan to prioritize the strengthening and development of agri coops as a vehicle to improve delivery of service to farmers.
