Zaoyang City, China — On 27 June 2020, the Professional Farmers Cooperatives Association of Hubei province in China assisted peach farmers in Dingzhuang Village, Lutou Town, Zaoyang City in picking and selling their products through group purchasing.
One hundred ninety-five (195) individuals—of which 130 are community leaders—were invited to pick and buy peaches. The organizations and individuals that participated in this activity include Longshang Channel of Hubei Changjiang Media, Longshang Agricultural Professional Cooperatives Association of Hubei Changjiang Agricultural Professional Cooperatives and Huihaili agricultural Professional Cooperatives Union of Zaoyang city.
This public welfare activity is supported by the Agricultural Management Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (AMI), the Asia Pacific Farmers’ Program (APFP), the Longshang channel, and the editorial department of China Farmers’ Cooperative.
When the participants entered the beautiful town of Zaoyang Lutou Dingzhuang Village, they were greeted by a whole peach garden. Located in Dingzhuang Village, Zaoyang City, Hui Haili Agricultural Cooperative Union has planted more than 10,000 mu fruit (including more than 280 mu of yellow peach). The peach trees grew well and there was plenty to harvest. Going into the peach forest, a breath of fresh air comes from the trees. Many yellow peaches are in full bloom and bright, with a mouth-watering gloss. Overlooking, the yellow peaches are like lanterns behind the green leaves, and the participants were excited to get a taste of the fruits.
Mr. Wang, the director of Zaoyang HuiHaili agricultural professional cooperative union, says, “Our yellow peach tastes sweet. The small peach kernel is full of water, the skin is thin, and are highly sweet. We do not use pesticides here so it is absolutely safe to eat. My peach garden is close to Fuyin Expressway and Provincial Highway 335. There is convenient transportation, so we are warmly welcoming you to Dingzhuang Village anytime for a sightseeing tour and picking fresh fruits. At present, the yellow peaches have entered the picking season that’s why many foreign merchants come here to purchase.”
Zaoyang HuiHaili agricultural professional cooperative union holds the principle of “tourists pick happy, eat safe “, encouraging tourists to pick independently so they can fully experience the fun of self-picking.
Though this picking activity, 1,830 cases of peaches were sold bringing a United Society sales revenue of 109,800-yuan RMB. The group purchase will continue to follow up.
The Federation of Farmers’ Professional Cooperatives of Hubei Province will continue to conscientiously implement activities in support of the Hubei Provincial Government’s measures to boost consumption and promote stable economic growth. Activities such as group picking tours will be continued to boost consumption and increase the income of farmers. This activity also encourages other people to participate in helping farmers, promote the sale of agricultural products, reduce the impact of the COVID-19 on agriculture, use practical actions to boost consumption, and help farmers’ cooperatives in Hubei Province tide over the difficulties. #
