Over 30 representatives of farmer organizations and national implementing agencies (NIAs) of MTCP2 in China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Fiji, and Tonga, as well as development partners IFAD, AFA, LVC, and ASEAN Foundation convene at the Agricultural Management Institute in Beijing, China on 26-29 June 2018 for the 4th Regional Steering Committee (RSC) Meeting.
According to Mo Dan, the vice president of AMI, China, NIA China carried out a great deal of fruitful work in the past 9 years. Through training, publicity, consultation, and guidance, it supported massive farmers’ cooperatives in capability building and market exploration. According to the statistics, more than 10 NPC &CPPCC delegates and labor models have engaged in the training classes conducted by AMI, and more than 1000 cooperatives have been rated as national demonstration cooperatives.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. Up to now, there are 2.07 million farmers’ cooperatives in China with 48.2% of the total farmers joined in. Farmers’ cooperative has become an important new agricultural management body and the backbone of modern agricultural construction. It has been playing an important role in promoting moderate scale management of agriculture, rural revitalization, the economic link between small farmers and modern agriculture, and the increase of farmers’ income and prosperity.
Participants discussed the framework, principles, targets, and outputs of the next phase of MTCP program in the meeting, and had a field visiting the North vegetable Cooperative of Beijing. Joint understand and agreement has been achieved through the event and would promote better implementation of the MTCP3, or should be called APFP instead. #
