Through the support of the APFP-FO4A and ARISE programs, the Ahugoda SANASA Primary Society in Sri Lanka has boosted its parboiled rice production, meeting the rising demand for this nutrient-rich staple.
The cooperative purchased rice boilers, allowing 18 farmer members to process rice more efficiently and diversify their offerings with traditional varieties. Members now produce up to 600 kilograms of parboiled rice each month, creating valuable products for the community and a revenue stream.
As Ahugoda SANASA expands its capacity, the cooperative aims to invest in larger boilers, distribute boilers to its other members, strengthen its supply chain, and build new partnerships to secure stable markets for their high-quality rice.
The APFP-FO4A program is funded by the European Union and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The program is implemented regionally by the consortium Asian Farmers’ Association and La Via Campesina (LVC) and is implemented nationally in Sri Lanka by Sanasa International.
