I am Pham Thi Dong Anh, 26 years old, Vice Chairwoman of the Farmers Union in Phuc Son commune, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province, Vietnam.
The year 2020 has been difficult when the whole world had to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Aside from the many deaths, COVID-19 had a strong impact on the entire economy, including agriculture. This effect continues until now and most probably in the following years. The pandemic broke input supply chains and consumption of outputs of the agriculture, forestry, and fishery products. It increased requirements and delayed the negotiation and signing of market-opening agreements between Vietnam and other countries.
Since the pandemic, agriculture in Phuc Son has encountered many problems. Many high-tech models of greenhouse were affected. Before the pandemic, many customers placed large orders for flowers. However, due to the complicated development of the pandemic, the flowers can no longer be sold outside the province. Therefore, farmers had to find ways to consume the flowers.
Facing these difficulties, I boldly propose some solutions. Regarding product consumption, it is necessary to reduce inventory, promote possible solutions and recommendations on the commercial situation, supply market information, and update producers on the COVID-19 situation. As consumers limit physical visits to shops, we should promote product consumption through online channels. To adjust to the COVID-19 restrictions as well as the weather, the locality must promptly adjust the season and seed, change the plant structure, apply new technology in production, and seek and expand to potential markets to reduce dependence on the usual markets.
