Liang is a valued member of the Handan Agricultural Association cooperative, representing one of the national farmers’ organizations involved in the APFP project in Xiaodi Village, Handan City, China. Her sponge cake, a delightful creation, is crafted from locally grown, pollution-free wheat and corn. It’s renowned for its delightful sweetness and fragrant aroma, making it a cherished specialty of Xiaodi Village. Liang takes pride in using the traditional method of kneading the dough and incorporates the rich flavors of Xiaodi’s ancient jujube into her creations.

Liang’s offerings are diverse, including whole wheat cakes, flour cakes, corn cakes, and vegetable cakes. Beyond baked goods, she also prepares hearty pot dishes that evoke a sense of home.

Liang’s sponge cake enterprise thrives, and she’s committed to giving back to her community. Her noble efforts extend to various public welfare activities, such as promoting environmental awareness. On the 15th day of the Lunar calendar, she generously provides free meals to elderly individuals aged over 70, exemplifying her dedication to both her craft and her community.

The “Women Ensuring Food Security and Nutrition: Forgotten Foods Cooking Contest” is organized by the consortium Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) and La Via Campesina (LVC) through the Asia-Pacific Farmers’ Program (APFP) – Farmers’ Organizations for Asia (FO4A) and Assuring Resiliency of Family Farmers (ARISE). APFP-FO4A is supported by the European Union (EU) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). ARISE is supported by IFAD.
