Day 2 of MTCP2 Impact Assessment at Sunway Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Socheat, FWN, reports the key output of MTCP2. He said that FWN members go into collective purchase of agricultural inputs so that they can bargain for better price.

Sok Sotha, CFAP, shares the key outputs of MTCP2 to their organization. He said that the two study tours they had helped the farmers learn processing and packaging.

Phalla, FCFD, shares the key outputs of MTCP2 to their organization. Chhong Sophal, FNN, shares key outputs of MTCP2 to their organization. Some of their members are now eligible to access loan from RDB.

Sony, FAEC shares the key outputs of MTCP2 to their organization. Presently, there are 133 agricultural cooperatives with business plans on rice and chicken production. ACs are better at managing business at the community level.

Leaders of Cambodia Platform: Seu Rany, FNN; Sopheap, FCFD; Sarun, FNN; An Sarun, CFAP; Prak Leak and Phon Bunna, FAEC. As national leaders, they agree on the following results of MTCP on the national platform:

  1. good venue or leaders to brainstorm, share knowledge and experiences, and solve problems – which contribute to FO capacity building
  2. build good relationship among FOs
  3. good chance of being heard for advocacy – especially now that there is a recognition of FOs by the government
  4. consolidation of commodities enabling farmers to negotiate for better price
  5. minimizes competition and increases cooperation

MTCP2 staff in Cambodia: Sopheap and Sophal, FNN; Sok Sotha, CFAP; Sony, FAEC; Phalla, FCFD; Socheat, FWN. As FO staff working on MTCP2, they learned:

  1. to have focus on commodity in providing services to FO
  2. financial management and audit better
  3. data collection and analysis, and the importance of such
  4. stronger relationship between FO leaders and staff
  5. better vision for the FOs 

Other changes in the lives of farmers now, as a result of implementing MTCP2 (FAEC, FNN), include increase in farmers’ income, use of technology such as green house, processing of products such as banana cake and cookies, (FNN), community level sales with present revenue at USD200,000 in one community in Kamppong Chnnang (FWN member).

Seu Rany, FNN shares the possible structure that will help escalate their provision of economic services to members: continue its focus on rice and chicken and expand more.
