The Movement on Innovative Agricultural Cooperative Ltd (MIACO) (NayaKrishAbhiyanKrishiSahakariSanstha Limited, in Nepali ) is a national level agriculture cooperative established in 2012 under the Cooperative Act 2048 B.S. of Nepal. MIACO is registered in the Cooperative Division office Kathmandu with a registration number of 4123/069/070. The cooperative was established by peasants and farmers for the economic prosperity of the nation and farmers through developing the modern agriculture systems. MIACO is the largest agriculture cooperative in the country.

The cooperative promotes organic agriculture, balancing farm and forestry ecology, good agriculture practices, and sustainable agriculture. It also works to increase the farmer’s access to finance, technology and market, and policy process through the strengthening capacity of farmers. 

MIACO members are doing several commercial agriculture farms such as vegetables, food production, goat, dairy and milk, fishery, agroforestry, horticulture, floriculture, etc. MIACO has market centers to sell the farmers’ products. MIACO has been also providing loans, seeds, technology, training, and agriculture equipment to the cooperative and farmer members.

MIACO has 104 branches in 45 districts and 1500 groups in 69 districts and 15482 members all over Nepal. To be a member of this cooperative, one should buy a minimum of 50 shares which is equal to Rs.5000, and the entry fee is Rs.100. To establish a branch, more than 51 members have to be at the local level. 

MIACO has a coordination office at the province level, a contract office at the district level, a branch office at the local level, and the central office is in Kathmandu. The central committee board directs all the programs running all over Nepal and the local committee board governs their branches.

The various activities of MIACO for commercialized agriculture production program include:

  • Engage every member of MIACO in professional production by facilitating learning on modern technical and practical knowledge and getting new technologies
  • Each women group of every branch/service center focuses on business-oriented production
  • Facilitate marginalized, landless, women and agriculture labors to lease the land for commercial agro-production
  • Involved more youths in agro-industries and promote youths to establish agro-industries
  • Collection and marketing of the production
  • Establish a processing center at the province level.
  • Establish laboratories with basic facilities like soil tests, etc. at the local level and laboratories with high modern technologies at the provincial level
  • Provide highly productive improved seed to the members developed through O.P. and Hy-breeding
  • Establish seed banks (collection, preservation, and storage centers)
  • Establish food banks
  • Engage the members in agro- frost production
  • Provide support members to produce, collect, and processing medicinal herbs
  • Value-adding for commodities through the specification and connecting every commodity to the value chain
  • Support members in searching and managing the necessary resources and infrastructures with concerned agencies for highly commercial production
