The National Farmers Group Federation of Nepal (NFGF) is an umbrella organization of farmers groups advocating the rights of marginalized, disadvantaged, women and small farmers throughout the country. With its non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit nature, it has been working relentlessly to raise the voices of farmers at the local level to the national level.

In addition, NFGF has collaborated with CARE-Nepal to initiate the right to food campaign making the progressive realization of the right to food in farmers at the grassroots level through evidence-based advocacy. NFGF has started and applying Participatory Capacity Assessment (PCA) and Advocacy Capacity Assessment (ACA) to facilitate self-assessment and improvement plan development and implementation.  NFGF is a member of the secretariat of MTCP2 NIA Nepal and has contributed greatly to the implementation of the project in the country.

As the capacity building is a continuous and reciprocal process of adjusting working areas and organizational working systems, NFGF has been successful in achieving a progressive result. With this, NFGF has internalized that PCA and ACA have the advantage in learning and building ownership of the capacity building process. It is the participatory discussion and judgment practices based on indicators. The participants will present very critical in marking the areas that were an important process of self-examination. The institution has succeeded to raise its level each year through its better performance. Accepting the places of deviance, NFGF will formulate an action plan with a corrective and progressive approach. Nevertheless, there is also a big challenge for the intuitional to maintain this level and each member and staffs should continue the hard effort to maintain and enhance the level achieved coming year.

For the next phase of the program, NFGF will focus on the following areas:

  • Need-based capacity enhancement in NFGF’s structure
  • Engagement with decentralized governments in developing and implementing the solution related to the issues of agriculture and farmers’ rights such as farmer ID card, Contract farming, JLO/Agri- insurance, agri-extensions, agriculture curriculum, wild animals, acceptable pricing of product marketing, etc.
  • Extend the climate change adopting practices at the farmer level
  • Group and NFGF Structure Mobilization and campaigning
  • Pilot program with the collaboration of different levels of government (each in all provinces)
