An advocacy-related consultation meeting was organized by SANASA international in collaboration with the Mawanella District Union, under FO4A -Smart Farmer project. The event was attended by the key officials of the Agrarian Services, Department of Agriculture, Department of Cooperatives, and Department of Export Agriculture assigned for the Divisional Secretariat. The event was also participated by cooperative leaders from all 5 townships attached to Mawnella DS division, and the Chairman and the General Manager of SANASA district union.
The discussion focused on the economic situation of the country and the difficulties it has caused for local livelihoods. SANASA International shared with the participants the focus of the FO4A project. The team well received the formation of supplier cooperatives and each participant suggested what they can do to make the Smart Farmer programme successful.
The association of Yam growers was represented by its leader who appreciated the commitment of SANASA International to promote Sri Lanka yam. He highlighted the high nutrition quality and certain yam varieties and agreed to provide resources to establish a yam growers cooperative.
