I am Nguyen Thi Diep, born in 1990. I am the Vice Chairwoman of the farmers’ union in Tien Phong commune, Thai Binh city, Thai Binh province, Vietnam.

Change is necessary for development and it contributes to building the country. But with rapid and strong urbanization, land is becoming increasingly narrow. The land is divided, and factories surround the remaining land areas, which facilitates rat disease and reduces rice yield. Due to the fragmentation of the land, the irrigation system is not synchronous, upgraded, or repaired, which results in frequent flooding and condensation. The remaining farm area is too fragmented so the number of people cultivating is decreasing. Farmers also face difficulties in applying science and technology in rice production.

Facing this situation, I suggest the following ideas:

1. When planning an industrial or residential area project, take more careful account of the reduction of the area of agricultural land.

2. Don’t sacrifice agriculture for industrial development.

3. The fragmented land area should be planned and handled thoroughly to avoid the situation of people abandoning their farmland.

If one of my recommendations is received and implemented, I will convey these to the people in my locality so they can understand how the Party and the State care for the farmers.
