My name is Fheter Parrenas, a young farmer and an aspiring agriculturist. I am currently working as an agri-technician for a farmer organization in Iloilo, Philippines

What always saddens me whenever I go to farm areas is the unending plight of our poor farmers. There are always natural calamities and disasters that hinder worthy production. I believe that climate change is one of the most difficult challenges for our farmers.

On my own farm, I am experiencing a loss of income from production, like what millions of farmers in our country are currently experiencing. While there is crop insurance, it is not sufficient for our needs.

To our policymakers, I hope that you will initiate a bill that gives financial assistance of not less than 10,000 pesos per hectare for palay (rice) and 15,000 pesos each for corn and sugarcane farmers whose crops were damaged due to calamities and disasters. I want to pursue this “financial assistance for damaged crops due to climate change” bill to minimize the loss of our farmers.
